Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone whose levels vary cyclically with a woman's menstrual cycle, and which acts to stimulate the release of mature eggs from the ovaries. Its peak occurs when LH is present in large quantities in a woman's blood and urine, so detection of LH levels in the urine is a reliable indicator of whether or not a peak is occurring. Urinary LH is based on less than 20 mIU/ml, and greater than or equal to 40 mIU/ml is a sign that peak urinary LH is about to appear in that menstrual cycle.
In the middle of a woman's menstrual cycle, LH secretion increases dramatically, forming the "LH" peak, which can trigger ovulation within 48 hours after the peak. Therefore, women are most likely to conceive within 1-3 days of the "LH" peak, and therefore the Luteinizing Hormone test strips are used to detect LH
Luteinizing hormone test strips can be used to measure the level of LH in urine specimens to predict the time of ovulation, thus effectively grasping the best time for conception or contraception.
