Gibco RPMI 1640 Medium (Roswell Park Memorial Institute 1640 Medium) was originally developed for suspension culture of human leukemia cell monolayers . Since then, RPMI 1640 medium has been found to be suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, including HeLa cells, Jurkat cells, MCF-7 cells, PC12 cells, PBMC cells, astrocytes, and cancer cells. RPMI 1640 modified media is available in a variety of components for a wide range of cell culture applications. Use Medium Selection Tool Find the right recipe.

BenchStable RPMI 1640 Medium is designed to be stored at room temperature and support cell proliferation and maximum cell density as well as conventional RPMI 1640 Medium supplemented with ≥10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

This RPMI 1640 medium has been modified in the following ways:
•Optimized for room temperature stability
•Contains GlutaMAX, Phenol Red
•HEPES-free

Use of BenchStable RPMI 1640 medium
RPMI 1640 medium has a unique effect compared to other media because it contains the reducing agent glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. RPMI 1640 medium contains biotin, vitamin B12 and PABA, which are not available in Eagle's MEM and DMEM. In addition, the medium contains high concentrations of the vitamins inositol and choline. RPMI 1640 medium uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2.0 g/L) and therefore requires an environment of 5–10% CO2 to maintain physiological pH. Contains GlutaMAX additive< /a>'s RPMI 1640 medium is available in an easy-to-use packaged format that significantly reduces toxic ammonia accumulation and improves cell viability and growth. BenchStable RPMI 1640 medium does not contain proteins, lipids or growth factors and therefore requires ≥10% supplementation Fetal bovine serum (FBS).
