The MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit contains the same components as the standard MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit (Cat. No. A42352) Reagent, therefore, like this kit, can recover viral particles and nucleic acids from Gram-negative bacteria. However, the MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Ultra Kit also includes a proprietary enzyme blend that can lyse difficult-to-break pathogens (such as Gram-positive bacteria, yeasts, and fungi) and recover nucleic acids. The MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Ultra Kit uses this enzyme mix in combination with optimized reagents to achieve comprehensive pathogen lysis and recovery of RNA and DNA.

This kit uses MagMAX magnetic bead technology to ensure reproducible recovery of high-quality nucleic acids compatible with a variety of applications, including real-time PCR, digital PCR and next-generation sequencing.

The reagent and enzyme mix included in the MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Ultra Kit maximizes sample input to increase RNA and/or the amount of DNA recovered from more difficult-to-break pathogens. Up to 400 μL of sample can be processed per well in KingFisher 96-well deep well plates. For larger sample volumes, KingFisher 24-well deep well plates are available, capable of processing up to 2 mL of sample per well.

Advantages of MagMAX magnetic bead purification
Compared with other technologies for isolating nucleic acids, magnetic beads have many advantages. Magnetic beads bind DNA more efficiently than glass fiber filter columns, resulting in higher and more consistent yields. Additionally, since no filter columns and vacuum manifolds are used, there is no risk of cell particles in the sample clogging the filter column. This clogging problem is particularly severe for large amounts of protein-rich samples, such as plasma, that are often used in the study of infectious diseases.

The Dynabeads MyOne Silane in the MagMAX Virus/Pathogen Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit has an optimized silica-like surface chemistry and high specific surface area, enabling efficient kinetics and high-sensitivity nucleic acid capture. These properties make Dynabeads MyOne Silane ideal for recovering low concentrations of viral RNA and DNA from body fluids. Once captured, these nucleic acids can be eluted in as little as 50 μL of elution buffer for downstream applications.
