This Ambion™ kit is suitable for rapid, high-throughput purification of mammalian whole blood, milk and Pathogen RNA in other biological fluids. RNA purified using this kit is ideal for RT-PCR applications. The kit uses magnetic bead purification and contains sufficient reagents for 96 reactions.

Advantages of MagMAX™ magnetic bead purification:
Compared with other technologies for isolating RNA, magnetic beads have Many advantages. Magnetic beads bind RNA more efficiently than glass fiber filter columns, resulting in higher and more consistent RNA yields. Additionally, since no filter columns are used, there is no risk of cell particles in the sample clogging the filter columns. Because only a small number of magnetic beads are required for efficient binding, only 30–50 µL of nuclease-free water is required to elute bound RNA, concentrating RNA from large dilutions of the sample.

Isolate RNA from as little as 50 µl of blood:
To obtain higher quality RNA, use unfrozen whole blood samples. Approximately 300–500 ng of intact RNA can be continuously purified from 50 µl of human whole blood. Bovine, porcine and sheep whole blood samples may also be used. Yields vary between species (see data). The recovered RNA is free of PCR inhibitors such as proteins and heme commonly found in RNA isolated from blood.

Isolation of viruses and total RNA from whole blood samples:
The MagMAX™-96 Blood RNA Isolation Kit does not require sample pretreatment, which can cause sample mixing and Cross-contamination. The procedure is fast (less than 1 hour), simple, and ideal for automation. The kit can also be used for processes processing fewer than 96 samples at a time and is compatible with manual processing using multichannel pipettes or processing using automated pipetting workstations. Protocols for use of this kit with specific liquid handling systems can be downloaded through our automation resources. MagMAX™-96 Blood RNA Isolation Kit can also be used to isolate total nucleic acids, eliminating the need for DNase treatment.

Auxiliary products:
Lyse/Bind Solution Concentrate (SKU#AM8500), Wash Buffer 1 Concentrate (SKU#AM8504) and Wash Buffer 2 Concentrate (SKU# AM8640) is part of the kit or can be purchased separately. The use of this kit requires the use of a 96-well magnetic ring stand. The Magnetic Stand-96 (SKU#AM10027) and 96-well Magnetic Ring Stand (SKU#AM10050) are designed for paramagnetic bead precipitation in standard 96-well U-bottom microplates. The magnetic ring holder forms the magnetic beads into round pellets, and the supernatant can be easily removed by robot or multi-channel pipette. If additional processing plates are required, Matrix 96-well U-bottom polypropylene plates (Thermo Scientific, Product No. 4917) are recommended.
