SYBR™ Safe DNA Gel Stain is a highly sensitive dye for DNA on agarose or acrylamide gels dyeing. SYBR™ Safe dyes are uniquely formulated to be a safe alternative to EB and can be excited using blue or UV light.

• Reduces exposure to highly mutagenic ethidium bromide and harmful UV light
• Enhances sensitivity by reducing non-specific background fluorescence
• Can be used in all applications where ethidium bromide is used Used in staining applications, including RNA staining

A better DNA dye
SYBR™ Safe DNA Gel Stain is a better nucleic acid dye that meets all molecular biology requirements dye. Not only is SYBR™ Safe DNA Gel Stain safe for people and the environment, it's also beneficial for samples and research institutions. For specific reasons, please see SYBR™ Safe DNA Gel Stain is your better choice.

Safer than ethidium bromide
SYBR™ Safe DNA Gel Stain is specially formulated and has been evaluated in a series of toxicity tests, showing that it works better than Using ethidium bromide has a lower chance of causing mutations and is safer. An independent laboratory demonstrated that SYBR™ Safe dye was less mutagenic than ethidium bromide in the Ames test (see figure). The risk of exposure can be further reduced by illuminating the SYBR™ Safe dye with visible blue light instead of UV light. This is valuable when performing exposure-intensive experiments such as excision of bands in gels.

Excellent sensitivity
SYBR™ Safe dye has excellent sensitivity for nucleic acid visualization. Whether it is excited by ultraviolet light or blue light, there are documented applications to prove its sensitivity. When bound to nucleic acids, green fluorescent SYBR™ Safe dye has maximum fluorescence excitation wavelengths of ∼280 and ∼502 nm and a maximum emission wavelength of ∼530 nm (see figure). Also, when excited by blue light, SYBR™ Safe dye produces less background fluorescence than ethidium bromide-stained gels illuminated by UV light.

Easy to Use
SYBR™ Safe dye is supplied as a 10,000X concentrate in DMSO and available as an ethidium bromide solution. SYBR™ Safe dye can be mixed into an agarose gel for staining during electrophoresis or incubated in SYBR™ Safe dye solution after electrophoresis. SYBR™ Safe can be stored at room temperature in its original packaging to avoid excessive light exposure. For ultimate convenience, we also offer SYBR™ Safe E-Gel precast agarose gels.
