SYBR Safe™ DNA Gel Stain was developed to reduce mutagenicity— Safer than staining DNA in agarose or acrylamide gels with ethidium bromide. Not only are SYBR Safe™ dyes less mutagenic than ethidium bromide, SYBR Safe™ dyes have a higher detection sensitivity than ethidium bromide. SYBR Safe™ dye comes as a premixed solution that can be used like an ethidium bromide solution, either in the gel during electrophoresis or as a post-electrophoresis dye. When bound to nucleic acids, green fluorescent SYBR Safe™ dyes have fluorescence excitation maxima at ∼280 and ∼502 nm, and a fluorescence maximum emission wavelength at ∼530 nm.
