EKMax™ is a recombinant formulation of the catalytic subunit of bovine enterokinase (1). EKMax™ recognizes the sequence Asp-Asp-Asp-Asp-Lys and cleaves the peptide bond after the lysine residue. This enzyme can be used to cleave fusion proteins carrying this peptide sequence (Figure 1).

Unit Definition: 1 unit of EKMax™ is defined as 90% digestion of 20 µg of thioredoxin-catalase fusion protein in 16 hours at 37°C The amount of enzyme required. One EKMax™ unit is equivalent to ∼190 trypsinogen activation units.
