Thermo Scientific RevertAid RT kit is a complete system for efficient synthesis of first-strand cDNA using mRNA or total RNA as template. This kit uses RevertAid reverse transcriptase (RT), which has lower RNase H activity than AMV reverse transcriptase. The enzyme remains active in the range of 42-50°C and is suitable for the synthesis of cDNA up to 13 kb in length. The kit comes with recombinant Thermo Scientific RiboLock RNase inhibitor, which effectively prevents RNA degradation at temperatures below 55°C. The first-strand cDNA synthesized by this system can be directly used as a template for PCR or real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. Additionally, this process is the initial step in second-strand cDNA synthesis or linear RNA amplification. Radioactive and nonradioactive labeled nucleotides can be incorporated into first-strand cDNA and used as probes in hybridization experiments, including microarrays.
