Thermo Scientific Glycogen is a highly purified polysaccharide extracted from oysters. It is an inert carrier that can significantly increase the nucleic acid recovery rate of ethanol precipitation. Glycogen is insoluble in ethanol and can form a precipitate to capture the target nucleic acid. Visible particles are formed during centrifugation, which greatly facilitates the handling of precipitated nucleic acids. Glycogen quantitatively precipitates nucleic acids in dilute solutions more efficiently than tRNA, linear polyacrylamide, or sonicated DNA (
See References 1-4).
We offer two glycogen aqueous solution formulations for fast and efficient DNA or RNA recovery:
•
Glycogen (Molecular Biology Grade), recommended for DNA Precipitate (#R0561)
•
Glycogen (RNA grade) , can be used for RNA and DNA precipitation (#R0551)
Product Advantages•Is to increase the oligonucleotide (>8 bases) in dilute solution Ideal for high and low DNA/RNA (> 20 pg) recoveries
• Forms clearly visible particles
• Will not interfere with enzymatic reactions†
• Will not interfere with nucleic acid gel electrophoresis
•Does not interfere with spectrophotometric determination of DNA/RNA concentration (A
260 to 280 measurement)
•Suitable for DNA transformation and
in vitro transfection

Footnote† At final concentrations up to 8 μg/μL, glycogen does not interfere with PCR, DNA sequencing, endonuclease cleavage of DNA, DNA ligation, or cDNA synthesis. , DNA labeling,
in vitro transcription or bacterial transformation are performed. Glycogen does not affect
in vitro transfection of eukaryotic cells using ExGen 500
In vitro Transfection Reagent at final concentrations up to 0.4 μg/μL.
