Thermo Scientific DTT (DL-dithiothreitol; Clelands' reagent) is used to stabilize enzymes and other proteins containing free sulfhydryl groups . It has been shown to restore the activity lost by in vitro oxidation to these groups. DTT quantitatively reduces disulfide bonds, ensuring that monothiols are in a reduced state (See Reference 1).

DTT is also widely used to disrupt protein disulfide bonds in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at a final concentration of 0.1 M.
