Compared with other basal media, 199 medium contains unique components, including adenine, adenosine, hypoxanthine, thymine and other vitamins. This 199 medium formulation contains Hanks Balanced Salts for use in CO
2-free culture environments.

199 medium does not contain proteins, lipids or growth factors. Therefore, 199 culture medium requires additives, usually 10%
