Thermo Scientific Pierce Protease Inhibitor Tablets, EDTA-free, contain highly effective protection against proteolytic degradation during cell lysis and protein extraction experiments of broad-spectrum protease inhibitors.

EDTA-free Protease Inhibitor Tablets Features:
Formulation Improvements—Tablets quickly dissolve into clear solutions
Economical —More cost-effective than other commercially available formulations for the same volume
Convenience—Ready-to-use, fully disclosed, broad-spectrum formulation
Compatible—For use directly with the Pierce BCA Assay
EDTA-Free—EDTA-free formulation, metalloproteinase inhibitor (only available with EDTA-free formulation)

Pierce Protease Inhibitor Tablets The agent prevents proteolytic degradation of proteins by inhibiting serine, cysteine, aspartic and aminopeptidase enzymes commonly present in cell lysate samples. This tablet contains AEBSF, aprotinin, statin, E-64, leupeptin and gastropin A. Stable for up to 12 months when stored at 4°C, each tablet is sufficient to handle 50 mL of solution, making it suitable for reagent preparation prior to protein extraction from tissues and cultured cells.

Proteases constitute a large class of enzymes, including endo- and exopeptidases, which catalyze the hydrolytic breakdown of proteins into peptides or amino acids. Proteases are present within cellular compartments, but are released upon cell lysis, leading to the degradation of valuable proteins. Therefore, it is often necessary to add a variety of known compounds to inactivate or inhibit proteases in cell lysis buffers or cell extracts.

To use Pierce Protease Inhibitor Tablets, simply dissolve 1 tablet in 50 mL of buffer or lysate. Protease inhibitor formulations are compatible with most detergent-based cell lysis reagents, including Pierce Cell Lysis Buffer. Pierce Protease Inhibitor Tablets do not contain phosphatase inhibitors. If necessary, a phosphatase inhibitor (such as Pierce Phosphatase Inhibitor Mini Tablets) can be added along with the protease inhibitor tablets.
