Image-iT™ Lipid Peroxidation Kit detects lipid peroxidation in living cells through oxidation of BODIPY™ 581/591 C11 Reagent of lipid peroxidation. After this reagent is oxidized by lipid hydroperoxide on the cell membrane of living cells, the peak fluorescence emission wavelength shifts from approximately ∼590 nm to approximately ∼510 nm. The fluorescence of living cells changes from red to green, providing a ratiometric indication of lipid peroxidation compatible with conventional and high-content microscopy and flow cytometry. This kit also includes cumene hydroperoxide (positive control), which induces lipid peroxidation in cells.
