Thermo Scientific Pierce MT(PEG)4 or methyl-PEG4-thiol is a methyl- and thiol-terminated compound , containing a 4-unit polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer, can be used to modify surfaces (such as quantum dots, monolayers, and magnetic particles).

Characteristics of MT(PEG)4:

Metal binding—The terminal monodentate thiol reacts spontaneously with the gold surface through coordination binding
• < b>Methyl—The terminal methyl group is not reactive. The main function of this compound is to coat quantum dots and other surfaces to reduce non-specific binding in the assay
Polyethylene glycol Alcohol—PEG groups are flexible, non-immunogenic, hydrophilic and can significantly reduce non-specific binding to protein method surfaces
Spacer Arm—Four-unit PEG spacer Bringing compound lengths close to 16 Angstroms

MT(PEG)4 is a monodentate thiol-terminated and methyl-PEGylated reagent. PEG compounds have defined molecular weights and spacer lengths and are suitable for modifying surfaces such as quantum dots, self-assembled monolayers, and magnetic particles. Functionalizing solid surfaces with polyethylene glycol spacers such as this one can significantly reduce nonspecific protein binding.

Using MT(PEG) 4 and CT(PEG) 12 in surface modification Hydrophilic "moss" of methyl ether-terminated PEG and PEG containing periodically exposed carboxylic acids can be formed. The exposed carboxylic acid groups can be coupled to affinity ligands via a carbodiimide coupling reaction of EDC and sulfo-NHS.
