DQ Ovalbumin is a protease fluorescent substrate. When large amounts of proteins are labeled with BODIPY dye, a strong fluorescence quenching effect is observed. When proteases are used to hydrolyze DQ ovalbumin into single, dye-labeled peptides, this quenching effect is reduced, resulting in a bright fluorescent product.
